How To Get The Best Deal On Holidays

If you’re on a budget but would love to get away at some point in the next year or so, knowing how to get the best deal is crucial. We take a look at some ways that you can get the best deal on a holiday and how to save money where you can.

Shoppers in the UK aren’t to great at haggling. In markets and shops across the world, you will find people haggling with shopkeepers to get the best deal but it generally something that we don’t do here. Sure, we may try to get some money off when buying a house or a car, but for most other things we seem happy to pay the full amount asked. This of course is a very expensive way of living but it doesn’t have to be the case, especially when booking a holiday. The price you see advertised is almost certainly not the price that you have to pay. With most (if not all) travel agents, there is a lot of room for negotiation on prices. You may find yourself surprised just how much you can get knocked off.

Pick Your Dates Carefully

We all know that going on holiday in school holidays is very expensive, so if you don’t’ have children, these times should be avoided. If you do have children and taking them out of school is not an option then you have to pick your dates carefully. Going on holiday during the October half term can often be a good idea and you’ll find lots of good deals available too. Easter is also worth a look as some years, different schools have different holiday patterns around it which can lead to the occasional good deal.

Use Price Comparison Websites

Just as there are lots of price comparison websites for the car insurance industry, there are also lots available for holidays too. CHecking across thousands of providers, you can often find some really good deals that will enable you to go on holiday for a budget. Just be careful to read all the terms and conditions though as some deals that may seem cheap upfront can cost you in other ways.

Pack Carefully

Luggage allowances are getting more stingy every year which means you have to pack carefully if you are to avoid being hit with expensive baggage charges. When you pack, do so with care and only take exactly what you need. Also, crucially, know what your baggage allowance is and weigh your luggage before you go. This will ensure you’ve not gone over your allowance and are hit with expensive charges.

All Inclusive Isn’t Always The Best Value

When going abroad on a budget, if you are looking to ensure that you have a good time without spending too much money then going all inclusive can be a good decision. WIth all of your food and drink paid for, you have little else to worry about on holiday. However, they may not always be the best option, and sometimes going room only and paying or preparing your own meals can work out cheaper. However, if you prefer the peace of mind that paying for your food and drink as part of your holiday brings, all inclusive is a better option, albeit one that is not always cheaper overall.
